More and more people are exploring open relationships and consensual nonmonogamy and are looking for competent therapists to help them navigate this dynamic relationship style. This intermediate level training provides valuable information about this growing subculture, common reasons polyamorous people seek therapy, specific recommendations for treatment interventions, and areas of growth for the field of psychology. Dr. Peace’s model of Polyamorous Identity Development is offered as a framework for clients to understand their personal growth journey and for clinicians to provide relevant, culturally informed support.

This training provides the following learning objectives:

    1. Recite the two main factors that distinguish polyamory / consensual Nonmonogamy from infidelity in relationships.

    2. Describe three polyamorous / consensually nonmonogamous relationship structures.

    3. Explain at least three of the eight stages of the polyamorous identity development journey.

    4. Identify one intervention for a stage of the polyamorous identity development journey.

Dr. Sandy Peace, PsyD, CST is a Licensed Psychologist in the State of California (PSY26410) and AASECT certified sex therapist in private practice providing individual, couples/partners, and group therapy.
